En junio de 2020, comencé este proyecto de intercambio de idiomas (inglés-español) utilizando la plataforma MeetUp y realizando reuniones a través de Zoom.
A lo largo de estos cuatro años, pasé de organizar dos grupos de MeetUp (Ciudad de México y Calgary) a un total de nueve grupos: uno en México, tres en Canadá, dos en Estados Unidos, uno en Inglaterra, uno en Colombia y uno en Chile.
La idea es que todos los eventos sean gratuitos, por lo que durante un año y medio cubrí los costos de los servicios de MeetUp y Zoom. Desde octubre de 2021, he recibido donaciones y contribuciones que me han permitido abrir nuevos grupos y cubrir los gastos a lo largo del año.
Sin embargo, en 2024 ha habido un aumento en el número de participantes, un incremento en los costos de las plataformas MeetUp y Zoom, y desafortunadamente una disminución en las donaciones y contribuciones.
Debido a esto, a partir de octubre 2024 me veo en la necesidad de hacer cambios en la forma de acceder a los enlaces de las reuniones, solicitando al menos una donación para poder participar en las sesiones, en las cuales hemos llegado a tener más de 100 personas en una sola reunión.
In June 2020, I started this language exchange project (English-Spanish) using the MeetUp platform and holding meetings through Zoom.
Over the past four years, I went from organizing two MeetUp groups (Mexico City and Calgary) to a total of nine groups: one in Mexico, three in Canada, two in the United States, one in England, one in Colombia, and one in Chile.
The idea is for all events to be free, so for a year and a half, I covered the costs of the MeetUp and Zoom services. Since October 2021, I have been receiving donations and contributions, which have helped me open new groups and cover the expenses throughout the year.
However, in 2024, there has been an increase in the number of participants, a rise in the costs of the MeetUp and Zoom platforms, and unfortunately, a decrease in donations and contributions.
Due to this, starting in October 2024, I will need to make changes to the way meeting links are accessed, requesting at least one donation to join the sessions, where we have had more than 100 people in a single meeting.
